The Middle East is a region where vehicle is king and fuel is low-cost, typically leaving little incentive to discover more environmentally-friendly ways of moving around.

But this year, as protests throughout the Middle East have pressed up the cost of oil, the problem of finding alternative sources of fuel has actually entered sharp focus.

In an area that has among the greatest carbon footprints worldwide, one business is taking advantage of the growing pressure to discover options to oil. It's set up the Middle East's first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It's showing successful too, already their client-list includes McDonald's.
